For this project, I was tasked with creating a concept for a quick yet impactful “facelift” for a mid-sized regional shopping centre recently acquired by the client. The proposal included minor updates throughout the malls and entrances, a refurbishment of the food court, and modernised amenities, including upgraded parent’s rooms. Following the client’s approval, I developed the design and prepared tender documentation for a Design and Construct contract. After novation, I further refined the documentation, conducted site inspections, and provided timely responses to the builder’s RFIs.

A key challenge was ensuring all new works complied with current regulations, particularly accessibility and clearance requirements, while integrating seamlessly with the existing infrastructure. The project also required careful planning to allow for continued trading in centre throughout the construction stage, including managing constraints posed by long-term tenancy agreements.
