AUSTRAL APARTMENTS

For this apartment development in Western Sydney, I undertook the feasibility study and concept design, responding to the client’s brief to maximise gross floor area and apartment yield while adhering to the NSW Apartment Design Guide, the DCP, and LEP requirements.

During the Pre-DA meeting, the council emphasised the importance of maximising deep soil zones and tree canopy cover, as well as a preference for durable external materials over paint and render, which can age poorly. I addressed these priorities by designing a layout that confined basement car parking within the building footprints, preserving significant areas for landscaping. The building façades were composed of robust materials, including brick, concrete, and metal cladding, ensuring a timeless and low-maintenance design. The concept balanced client objectives with council expectations, achieving a thoughtful and compliant solution.
