GPO LANEWAY
Project Type
RETAIL | HERITAGE | CONCEPT | DA | TENDER
Location
Melbourne, VIC
Date
2015-2017
The GPO Laneway project involved transforming a private laneway in Melbourne’s CBD, nestled between the iconic GPO Building and Myer’s flagship store, into a protected dining area for three food outlets. The client’s goal was to cover the laneway to shield it from the weather while ensuring no physical connection to the heritage-listed GPO building.
I contributed to the concept development, proposing a spine wall with an undulating roof to achieve a visually striking yet functional design. My modular approach for the walls and roof facilitated easier construction, addressing the site’s narrow aspect and limited access. I prepared the architectural documentation for Planning Approval and coordinated with consultants to deliver endorsement drawings, building permit documentation, and tender packages, ensuring all aspects adhered to planning and heritage requirements while meeting the client’s vision.
This project was undertaken as part of my role at Villa and Villa.
